Flu Vaccines to adults & children (nasal spray aged 2 - 17 years old).

Many patients are eligible for a free Flu vaccine. Flu vaccines are available in store 5 days a week from September 18th 2024 to June 2025. No appointment needed - call us on 091-562967, email clearysgalway@gmail.com or follow us on social media for clinic dates.

Private flu vaccines are available at €30.

Cleary's Pharmacy provides corporate Covid booster & Flu vaccine clinics, to give your team the best protection from illness this Winter. Covid booster vaccines are available to eligible patients and are always free of charge.

In Autumn 2024, Flu vaccines will be available free of charge to:

• age 60 and older

• age 2 to 17

• a healthcare worker

• pregnant

• living in a nursing home or other long-term care facility

• in regular contact with pigs, poultry or waterfowl

• someone with a health condition that puts you at higher risk of flu (age 6 months and older)

• living with someone who has a health condition that puts them at higher risk of flu

• a carer for someone who has a health condition that puts them at higher risk of flu

Private flu vaccines (€30) are available to those not eligible for a free HSE vaccine.

Getting the flu vaccine - HSE.ie

Cleary's Pharmacy, in conjunction with the HSE, provides free children's nasal flu vaccines onsite in Co Galway primary schools.

The HSE conducted a pilot programme in Autumn 2023, providing onsite vaccines to Senior Infants students in Irish primary schools. Vaccine uptake rates are significantly increased when clinics are provided in the school setting. The HSE has requested pharmacies offer onsite clinics in schools to all primary school children in Autumn 2024. The Shingles vaccine is recommended for anyone aged 50 years and older.

There are two options.

Shingrix

Two doses are required, two months apart, to complete the vaccination course.

The cost is €243.50 per dose.

The total cost is €487.

 

Studies have shown that four months after two doses of the Shingrix vaccine that its efficacy at preventing shingles was as follows:

• Aged 50 to 69 years 100%

• Aged 70 to 79 years 93%

• Aged 80 years and older 71%

Zostavax

Studies have shown that three months after one dose of the Zostavax vaccine that its efficacy at preventing shingles was as follows:

• Aged 50 to 59 years 70%

• Aged 60 to 69 years 64%

• Aged 70 to 79 years 41%

• Aged 80 years and older 41% at 5 years 

Zostavax costs €220.
